The Cheatham County Cubs made the cross-county trip last Friday night where they took on the Harpeth Indians in Kingston Springs. The County rivals, who now compete together in District 11-AA, met for the first time since 2006. The Indians jumped out to an early 21-0 lead and they never looked back on their way to the 35-7 victory over the Cubs. The Indians came racing out of the gates as Harpeth scored 3 touchdowns in the first seven minutes of the game. A 29 yard touchdown strike from Jeremy Roark to Perry Horkins started the scoring then a 1 yard touchdown run from Nathan Foriest made the score 14-0. A eight yard touchdown run from Dakota Seagraves pushed the advantage out to 21-0 with just under six minutes remaining in the opening frame. Harpeth got a 46 yard touchdown run from Foriest to made the score 28-0 early in the second quarter. The Cubs got their first sustained drive going when quarterback Reece Hunter connected with freshman Mitchell Potts for a 50 yard gain. Three plays later, Shaun Montgomery scored from 3 yards out and Cheatham County cut the lead to 28-7. The Cubs defense came up with a fumble recovery from Montgomery, and an interception from Seth Hastings, but Cheatham County couldn’t capitalize on those mistakes, and Harpeth went to the intermission with a 28-7 cushion. The Indians scored the only points of the second half as Travis Tice ripped off a 35 yard touchdown run, and Harpeth went on to the 35-7 victory. The Cubs (1-6 overall, 1-2 District 11-AA) were led by Montgomery, who had 79 yards on 20 carries with 1 touchdown. Mitchell Potts had a combined 121 yards between rushing and receiving. The Cubs return home this Friday night where they will face one of the top teams in the State, the Camden Lions. The Lions come into this District 11-AA contest with a 8-0 record. Camden defeated Waverly 35-0 last Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30. |
